Either the chain break outside the housing or inside the housing. Sometimes it can be broken inside the switch. In that cases, you need to open the pull chain switch to replace the chain.

Scenario 1: Break the chain outside the housing

In that cases, you don’t need to open the motor housing or completely change the chain. You need to buy a pull chain extension. This type of extension is easy to use, and you have to cut between two balls to take your needed length using a scissor.

You can also use an extension to extend the length of your existing pull chain. If you need a chain connector, you can buy it from a local shop or Amazon. If you are not clear on how to add an extension to your broken ceiling fan chain, watch this video.
