How to remove Hampton bay ceiling fan

Today we are going to talk about Hampton bay ceiling fans. This fan is very popular for its performance and design. There is no other effective and cheap way to keep your room cool and comfortable.

Hampton bay ceiling fan is easy to install, but most people face difficulty when it comes to uninstall. This article tells you how to easily remove your Hampton bay fan if you are such a person.

Required tools and equipment:

  • Circuit tester
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Step Ladder
  • Drill

Step 1: Turn off the power.

First, you need to make sure there is no power. Even if someone accidentally turns on the fan switch, there is no chance to come electrical power. Locate the circuit breaker for the room where you are going to take down your ceiling fan and open the breaker. To be sure, turn on the fan switch and use a current tester to test, and then turn off the fan switch.

Step 2: Setup a Step Ladder.

To reach the ceiling, you need a sturdy step ladder. Place your ladder on a leveled surface and make sure the ladder is locked perfectly.

Step 3: Remove the fan glove and light bulbs.

If you fan containing a light kit, remove it first; that makes your job easier and safe. Notice at the base of the globes to see how they are attached. Most of the globes are secured with screws. If the light globe is connected with screws, using a screwdriver, unscrew them and keep them in a safe place. If you do not find any screws, it might be a push lock system.

Step 4: Remove the light kit.

After removing the glove/cover and light bulb, remove the light kit. Loosen all screws that secured the kit with the fan housing and then remove all screws. Take the light kit slightly down until the light wire you can see. Now you need to unplug the light kit wire and then remove the kit.

Step 5: Remove the fan blades.

Slide the screwdriver under the plastic band at the bottom of the blade to remove it. To allow the screws, you need to open more of the blade arm’s keyhole, pull back the blade arms. After opening it, you can unscrew and take off the blades.

Step 6: Remove the canopy ring.

As you can see from the top of the fan, there’s no visible way to take it down from the ceiling. But you will find a ring at the top of the canopy to get it off the ceiling.

The ring can be seen so that it is rotated about one inch in the direction clockwise and is then sliding down, revealing the screws holding the canopy to the mount.

This may not be on the ceiling of the ring so quickly. So you may need to work it backward and forwards a little until it has enough play to slide off, and once this ring is removed, everything makes sense, and this fan comes down like any other fan.

Step 7: Take the canopy down.

Now you can easily unscrew the canopy and take it down slightly through the downrod. Now you can see the fan wiring.

Step 8: Disconnect the fan wiring.

You should take a note or picture to reinstall your ceiling fan. Make sure there is no electricity before wiring out using a tester. Pull all the wires through the electric box. Loosen the wire nut and remove them and then twist the wire to separate. Now you have to separate all the wires one by one.

Step 9: Remove the fan from the ceiling.

Hold the fan body with two hands firmly. Lift it slightly and slide it outside of the ceiling fan bracket. Carefully lower the fan to the floor. You are done.

Step 10: Remove the mounting bracket.

This is the last step in removing a ceiling fan after removing the fan body. You must now remove the mounting bracket. Because, if you replace an old fan with a new one, the new one should come with its own bracket that may or may not match the old one. If the old fan is still functional, save all of your hardware to donate or reuse.

Final Verdict:

If your ceiling fan stop working, want to paint your room, then removing your current ceiling fan might be necessary. Since you are not a professional and might not release a ceiling fan for many days, you might face any difficulties. I hope after reading this article, your job will be easier and successful.
